L'Institut de La Tour - Anglophone Section
Philosophy The Anglophone Section's Primary Programmes were developed to create a completely English-speaking environment in which children can maintain and develop their oral skills as well as learn and build the foundations for reading and writing. Native-speaking teachers use materials from primary programmes in the UK and US.
PRIMARY PROGRAMME
STEP ONE
For English Mother Tongue Children ages 4-6
(Wednesdays, 1.00 -3.30pm)
A team of 2 native-speaker teachers pays careful attention to individual needs within a classroom group. A maximum of 10 students per class.
Programme Step One comprises three 40-minute workshops covering a variety of topics: reading, writing, drawing, sports and songs. There is a 5-minute break between each workshop as well as a cookie time with refreshments.
Objectives
- to develop English as a means of communication and a source of pleasure;
- to develop pre-reading skills and a love of reading and storytelling;
- to enhance positive attitudes in all activities;
- to encourage children to be both independent and co-operative:
- to provide a bridge between home and school
PRIMARY PROGRAMME
STEP AHEAD
A Programme for all children ages 7-10
(Total immersion in English - Wednesdays, 1.00 - 3.30pm)
A team of 6 native-speaker teachers pays careful attention to individual needs within a classroom group. A maximum of 15 students per class.
Programme Step Ahead comprises three 50-minute classes covering a variety of topics: classic and modern literature, grammar exercises, songs, dance routines, arts and crafts, maps and atlases.
Objectives:
- to foster the ability to communicate using language relating to the children?s everyday lives;
- to encourage the ability to write a variety of styles of texts;
- to introduce children to a variety of reading genres;
- to prepare for eventual entry to an Anglophone, bilingual, European or advanced section.
